History of the house
Our building was built in 1902 as a home for the family of J.W. Doyle. As station master he installed guest rooms, as the train stopped only a few times a week in St. Peter's.
In 1918 Alex MacDonald, from Soldier's Cove, bought the house to create an income for his 3 daughters (Mary, Tena and Josephine), who registered the country inn as the "MacDonald Hotel" the same year.
This musical family entertained their guests each night with piano music. After the death of most family members the youngest sister, together with her husband Tom, took over the management. With a heavy heartthey had to sell due to sickness in 1975. From this year on, Ardon and Michaleen Mofford took over the reins as owners and kept the inn's spirit alive. Their dining room was widely known for its exceptionally good cuisine and with devotion they tried to keep the charm of this wonderful building.
In September 2003, Beate Hassold, immigrated from the North Sea Island Foehr - close to the Dansk Border - to Nova Scotia. She acquired the Country Inn & Dining Room in the spring of 2009 and after extensive renovations and restorations it was restored and awarded with 4 stars****. The house was reopened he same year and since then we are pleased to welcome guests from all over the world.
